(Senior) Automation Engineer | Naval & Defence Projects
Netherlands | Hybrid (up to 2 days HO)
Damen Naval is looking for an experienced (Senior) Automation Engineer to join long-term, high-end naval defence projects. This role sits at the heart of complex ship automation — from concept and design to testing, commissioning and final delivery of state-of-the-art naval vessels.
Your role
As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will:
- Design and develop automation concepts for complex ship systems (PLC / SCADA)
- Prepare functional descriptions, specifications and engineering documentation
- Define and execute test & validation plans (FAT, HAT, SAT, simulations)
- Work in a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) environment following the V-model
- Review and integrate vendor & subcontractor designs
- Support commissioning activities and proposal phases
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams
Your background
- 5+ years of experience in automation engineering (PLC / SCADA)
- Experience in maritime, offshore, defence or aerospace environments
- Strong exposure to complex, multi-supplier projects
- Familiarity with MBSE and V-model workflows
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering (or similar)
- EU citizenship & EU passport required (mandatory due to military projects)
- Ability to pass security screening
